Many young visitors gather at a booth at the Book and Reading Culture Festival 2012 at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on April 21 - 22
Thousands of young readers flocked to the two-day Book and Reading Culture Festival 2012 at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi last weekend.
At the event themed “Book - Knowledge - the Root of Success” held to mark the World Book and Copyright Day on April 23, young authors had chances to introduce their works to readers.
The festival, which aimed to encourage young people to develop a habit of reading, featured painting and writing contests for children, lectures on the reading culture and skills, calligraphy writing and music performances.
Since 1995, the World Book and Copyright Day has been celebrated by UNESCO to encourage everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and to promote the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
UNESCO has chosen April 23 to pay a worldwide tribute to books and their authors since it is the date when great authors including Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died.
